Ukraine is an independent state of Eastern Europe, which gained independence on August 24,1991. It is situated in the central part of the global belt of the most intensive political and economical development, which constitutes a wide strip girding the entire Northen Hemisphere. The belt is represented by four major powerful centres: USA, Western Europe, Russia and Japan that actually form two geographic massif - American and Eurasian. The total area of Ukraine is 603,700 sq.km, population - near 49 mln inhabitants (01.01.2001). Density of population is 86 person/sq.km, urbanization - 68 %.
